Cafe of the Week: So Whipped

Thursday, 29 January, 2015
So Whipped is freshly opened in Gateway in Durbs! Now I very rarely venture anywhere with fluorescent lighting, but the allure of cupcakes and my curiosity for any new cafes led me to stray from my norm and I'm certainly glad that I did.

Located opposite the WaveHouse where the climbing wall used to be, deep in the heart of retail land, the space has been transformed into a decadent oasis of sweetness.

The So Whipped team is wonderful and for parents, there's an awesome little kiddies play area!

I was welcomed by Shane and caffeinated by barista Scelo, then sat down to chat to Candice, the baker extraordinaire and brains behind the operation. We had a frank discussion about the wonders and the hard work of opening a cafe. A little under two months in and the fledgling cupcake has taken off.

"I want this place to build a community here, the best part has been seeing how quickly regulars become regulars."

The blend they were pouring today was the Revelation Blend and it was well-balanced and very well made and the treats that accompanied it were simply delightful. The beautiful vintage La Marzocco espresso machine is a sight to behold and being used to it's full potential!

A new high tea has just being launched, just contact them to book for any day of the week!

Sublime apple tartlets!
